A Place in the Sun
There’s a place that’s on my mind these last few weeks… a small island off the coast of Sulawesi, Indonesia. There’s a village beside a beach, and a family, and Oma is making me deep fried bananas for breakfast. The kids are showing me how to find bait so that we can catch fish for lunch. I’m wrapped in easy kindness. Wanda is trying to teach me how to speak the local dialect (I’m bad at it, but she’s patient).

I want to go back and hug Oma, and I want to congratulate Wanda on her graduation. I want to say thank you to these people who did so much to remind me that there is a place for me in this world.
In a few weeks, I think I’ll be heading that direction.

Taking a deep breath, seeing new people/things and enjoying life – that’s the essence of a holiday, Grace. Rejoice, relax and please write more. You’re a gifted writer (says an ex-journalist).
